ID123-Table – Player Rotation
Question: We play with a group of women and sometimes have two or three tables. Is it best to rotate or should we stay at one table?
Answer:
Rotating tables is a preferred way of playing with more than one table because playing with others of different skill levels and styles is a great way to improve one’s game, especially if you are a newer player. Below are different scenarios to help you with table-player rotation:
- Even Groups of 4 Players: Assuming you have a committed group of 3 tables, you could rotate after each game (recommended for slower players) or after the 4th game (recommended for faster players), allowing everyone to be East once. Rotation would occur with each East moving to the next table, and the next player in line to be East becomes the first East to begin the next game. Repeat this throughout the day. While this sounds easy enough, it does present a challenge. If one table is done before the other table(s), then everyone has to wait until all tables are finished. While waiting, everyone should mix the tiles and turn them upside down so they are ready for building the walls. This is a great time to get up, stretch, or chat, taking your conversation away from the other players to avoid disturbing them. As long as everyone agrees to wait, it’s the easiest way to do it.
- Five Players: After each game, East would get up, and the 5th player would rotate in. This repeats after each game. This rotation is also done when there is a 5th player betting.
- Six Players: In this situation, you could have two tables of 3 players and follow the same rotation as above, or have 1 table of 4 players and, after each game, have one of the players sitting out rotate in, with East rotating out.
As long as everyone agrees, you can pretty much do it any way you choose. The goal is that everyone gets to play and enjoy the experience of playing with everyone.
