Question: What is the proper way to name Winds and Dragons when it is discarded?

Answer: When playing American Mah Jongg, the Winds are named by the wind position noted by the first letter, e.g. N, E, W, S. A wind tile with an “N” is named North and so on. The word wind as in “North Wind” is not used when naming these tiles.

Dragons are commonly named “Red”, “Green” or “White”. It is also permissible to name a White Dragon, “Soap”.
