Question: Why does the National Mah Jongg League issue a new card each year?

Answer: When Mah Jongg was first imported to America in the early 1920s, a group of Mah Jongg enthusiasts in New York standardized the rules for their sisterhood. As time went on, other synagogues wanted to do the same thing so they decided to share their unique version of the game through an organization and publish the card annually with some of the proceeds going to charity. For American Mah Jongg players, purchasing the annual card is a joy because they get to play new hands. Their purchase is also an opportunity to give back to the community.  American Mah Jongg cards can be purchased at the National Mah Jongg League online store.
